About
Psychoanalysis is my foundation for addressing mental health issues because its insights and technique enable me to be clinically grounded, creative, emotionally available and integrate other approaches, such as AF-EMDR. My areas of interest include working with adults with depression, anxiety and histories of trauma. Recognizing and emotionally engaging patterns frees up a person to make better choices for themselves.
I have over two decades of clinical experience working in several different settings with a range of individuals, including a community clinic, where I participated in Project Liberty (to address the mental health needs of New Yorkers in the aftermath of 9/11) as well as 15 years as a staff psychologist at the AIDS center program at a NYC public hospital, where I was also engaged in many aspects of the APA (American Psychological Association) accredited Psychology Internship program.
I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University. My doctorate in clinical psychology incorporated supervised clinical experience in several different settings as well as four years of coursework (including psychological testing, diagnosis as well as topics related to diagnosing and treating specific mental health issues), the writing of a dissertation, and a 1 year full-time clinical placement. I chose to get this degree because I believe that its thoroughness would optimally prepare me to work with people to address mental health issues.
